Redundancy training options
Many employers do not realise that employees facing redundancy may be
entitled to a reasonable amount of time off to look for another job and
organise training for themselves.
The DTI states: "An employee who is given notice of dismissal because of
redundancy is entitled to reasonable time off with pay during working hours
to look for another job or make arrangements for training for future
employment. The time off must be allowed during the period of notice."
We have worked with a number of local companies to develop training courses
to re-train staff so that they can find another position as quickly as
possible. Recent examples include a student whose Executive PA Diploma
course was paid by her employer and she subsequently found a new job before
completing it.
Similarly, we have helped people who have been made redundant to learn new
skills or refresh old ones to maximise their chances of employment.
There
are a number of advantages to this including:
- It adds ‘another string to your bow’. The
more skills you possess the greater your value to potential employers.
- It enhances your CV. Qualifications always look good on a CV so if you
can turn a skill you already possess into a quantified qualification then
you will increase the impressiveness of your CV.
- Independent learning demonstrates to an employer that you are
committed to your own development and are prepared to do this in your own
time.
- It proves that you are a motivated and positive individual.
Pitman Training Guildford offers over 140 different courses including
Microsoft skills Diploma, Touch Typing, Bookkeeping and Web design.
Any of these courses could help someone to make a fresh career start and
minimise their time without work. Remember, unlike a conventional
college our training can start immediately so there is no need to wait weeks
or even months to start re-training.
